This online workshop provides an approach that frees you to explore the delight of color and form that is abstraction. Over three 2-hour sessions, you will embark on a distillation process that eliminates non-essential details, arriving at a modern art that joyfully expresses the simple nature of subject and scene.

Through historic and contemporary examples, you will learn different ways of seeing abstraction.

You'll begin by drawing small, from a photograph, realistic image or still life setting and create a large volume of small quick works as a body of source material. During Class 2’s experience, you'll put away your original sources and using your small works as a starting point – and changing up your medium for a fresh interpretation – your work will get larger and looser. Finally, you'll go bigger still, playing with color and composition, and further loosening your grip on realism. Working iteratively, you take this process into an exploration of essence.

All levels welcome.
