Girls Inc. of Orange County believes that men can be powerful allies and partners in creating a more equitable world for girls. That is why several years ago, we created Dads for Daughters, a men’s auxiliary group, to highlight the important role dads (and male role models) play in supporting girls in becoming strong, smart, and bold.

This June, in celebration of Father’s Day, Dads for Daughters has launched an online fundraising campaign. They are inviting the community to make a gift to Girls Inc. in honor or memory of a positive male role model in their life (a dad, stepdad, husband, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle, or mentor). Donors can honor a role model who made a difference in their life, while making a difference in the lives of Orange County girls. Girls Inc. will be recognizing all honorees on their website and social media on Father’s Day (Sunday, June 20).

Funds raised will support the Girls Inc. program, Girls Meet the Workforce. This innovative four-month internship program gives high school girls real work experience, including training by Girls Inc. staff in interview skills, resume writing, business etiquette, and time management, internship placement at host companies around Orange County, mentorship from local professionals, and access to college and career panels, speed mentorship workshops, and networking events.

Through this program, girls strengthen their leadership skills and receive extensive career exploration within industries like STEM, law, and business - many that are often underrepresented by women.

A recent Girls Inc. applicant to this program shares, “As a woman interested in STEM, I am aware of the high percentages of males in the field. A male-dominated workforce seems intimidating, but I believe with the right support and training, I can overcome this worry. The professional and training experiences in this program will help me find myself and approach the future with more confidence. The skills I learn will not only be used during the program but throughout my whole life. I can finally tell myself, I deserve to be here.”
