Drawing Basics: Seeing and the Three Kinds of Memory with Carl Jackson

Family Friendly
Series
Fort Worden - Building 306
200 Battery Way, Port Townsend, WA 98368, United States

This in-person workshop with Carl Jackson guides you in acquiring and refining the ability to accurately depict what you see. You’ll learn the basics of how our perceptions, both external and internal, affect the drawing result. For beginners, this approach will get you started on the right foot and for more advanced students, you will dive deeper into areas that need explanation and exploration. Seeing as an artist sees is not a magical ability only a few possess, but a process one learns, and through practice refines. Exercises will examine Measuring, Negative Space, Relationships, Developing Touch, The Four Stages of a Drawing, and personal skill-building. There will be a homework assignment after the first day which will provide the basis for a discussion and a final drawing project on day two. The objective of the course is to give students a clearer understanding of how to develop accuracy and skill while avoiding the common mistakes and missteps which befall most of us when developing our drawing skills.
