This 5-class in-person series explores the artistic concept of pattern to move beyond the decorative. Through the use of repeating design, color, shape, and line, we’ll look at how various kinds of mark-making have the potential to express emotional, and symbolic truths. Using simple materials, we’ll create our own portfolio of expressive art that builds upon our own pattern stories. Along the way, we’ll visit the work of artists like Yayoi Kusama and Gloria Petyarre – both of whom have relied on repeating patterns in their work to communicate complex symbols, emotions, and ideas that tap into the nature of consciousness and more expansive worlds. Ages 6-9 welcome. All supplies are provided.
