Gather with the Planet Earth Academy of Creative Expression (P.E.A.C.E.) for a monthly reading group at Finnriver to explore the vast possibilities of imagination, expand consciousness, engage in the thoughtful exchange of ideas and grow community through fantastic and transformative fiction!

Our book list for the Winter/Spring is posted below and you can read along at home or join us at Finnriver as conditions allow. We’re calling the reading group Uncommon Stars, after one of the titles on the list. This list of books reflects some intense themes and challenging material. Please review titles and contents first. Recommended for adults.

We will meet on the 4th Thursdays from 5:30-7pm at the Cider Garden*. The first selection will be discussed at the Thursday, January 27th gathering so mark your calendars— and the list goes through 6 selections until June, after which we will take a summer break. This gives you a good lead time to start reading! Our reading group format is casual and considerate, with an intention to listen and learn from these authors and from our shared exploration.

Support regional independent bookstores for your book purchases like Imprint in Port Townsend (https://www.imprintbookstore.com) or Sister Sci-Fi in Seattle (https://sistahscifi.com). We’ll also send the list to the local libraries and hope they can provide copies. If anyone has barriers to obtaining a book copy, please let us know so we can assist.

1. Light from Uncommon Stars: Ryka Aoki
2. Bloodchild and other Stories: Octavia Butler
3. Empire of Wild: Cherie Dimaline
4. Queen of the Conquered: Kacen Callender
5. Gods of Jade and Shadow: Silvia Moreno-Garcia
6. The Thirty Names of Night: Zeyn Joukadar
