Let's spend some time with the legendary Frida Kahlo. We all know her as an icon — draw a circle with heavy eyebrows and a flower crown and anyone will know whom you mean — but what do we really know about her as an artist and as a person? What did Kahlo's art mean to her, and what did this artist's voice mean during the times she lived in?
Kahlo was more than a painter and fashion icon. She opened the door for artists to express their deepest, truest selves. Despite many life events that could have broken her, Kahlo transformed her pain into beautiful, deeply meaningful art.
In this community-building discussion, teaching artist Lorelei Amato will invite us to reflect on and celebrate Frida's dazzling art. As with all of Northwind's Women in Art History classes, no previous experience in art history or art-making is required. Just bring your curiosity. All materials and supplies are provided.
