In this 5-day in-person series, we'll experiment with the effects of combining patterns to create layered mixed-media works of art with an emphasis on symbolic shapes and intentional color. Drawing inspiration from Modernist artists like Beatriz Milhazes, we'll study how her paintings and murals merge repetitious shapes with brilliant, bold colors to make subtle references to Brazilian folk art and the artist's cultural background. Like the examples of student art depicted with this description, we'll create our own collection of expressive pattern art based on Milhaze's approach. Using simple materials, students will develop skills in drawing, painting, and collage, while focusing on their own unique pattern stories. Ages 9-12 welcome. All supplies are provided.
