Come meet Carmen Spagnola, author of The Spirited Kitchen: Recipes & Rituals for the Wheel of the Year, which drops Fall 2022 W.W.Norton. Preview Carmen's forthcoming book while she demonstrates how to weave a wheat fringe swag to decorate a mantle or doorway.
Celebrate the harvest season with a hands-on activity. Practice traditional crafting as we learn how to create a ‘12-straw Glory Braid’, an old English wheat weaving design used to ward off evil and invite in friends. Wheat weaving is a near global tradition with deep roots in Africa, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. We’ll be using grain grown locally in Chimacum.
THE SPIRITED KITCHEN OPEN HOUSE
After each wheat weaving workshop, Carmen will host a free Open House for the general public to view a seasonal altar and examples of traditional harvest crafts.
