What is 'Rueda de Casino'? "Rueda" means "Wheel" and refers to a Cuban style of salsa danced in groups of 4-20+ people in a continuous flow of dynamic motion with exciting synchronized & coordinated moves, clapping, stylish rhythmic punctuations, vocalizations, seamless changing of partners & formations, and an exhilarating flow as the circle takes on a life of it's own.
Cuban style is a little funkier and more "street" than Ballroom / "Salon" style Salsa. It retains it's African roots, engages torso and shoulders more, has a very different directional and more oppositional dynamic, and is flavored by historical dances of Cuba. It is rooted in the compelling rhythms & sounds of "TIMBA" music which shares parentage with "Nuyorican" salsa music of the 60's but is very different. Timba is a very elegant & innovative fusion of polyrhythmic call-and-response Afro-Cuban sounds with a little funk, jazz, hip hop and rock & roll rolled into it, with a hard driving sound, that continued to evolve in Cuba after the NY era of Salsa, though we had little knowledge of it due to @ 60 years of sanctions / embargo. We do our best to represent authentic Cuban style(s), but also recognize our limitations. We also take some creative license and innovate, add some of our own flare & moves. We Encourage you to study with Cuban dancers whenever you get the chance!

FAST TRACKERS - TUES Class at the Gazebo, 6pm
We will continue to meet at the Gazebo at 6pm. This class moves a little faster. We would love for any very motivated dancers to join, but might put you through the rigors a bit. Criteria for joining this group are: consistency in attendance (minimum of 3 out of 4), proficiency with contra-moción, mastery of the big-on-2 step, triangle step & some of the more funky steps, knowledge of the basic moves that make the wheel go round: Enchufla, Dile Que No, Guapea, Llevala Pa’bajo. A couple of private lessons could possibly get you up to snuff, or 2-3 repetitions of the beginner series.
Cost: $44 for a 4 week series Starting Sept 6th - 27 . Drop in rate: $15 Class size limited to 12 people. Venmo ‘@csaldavis’ csalsera@comcast.net 415-847-2271 to reserve your spot!
Enrolled Fast Trackers are welcomed to participate in the beginner class for no cost.
