Love to sing? Ever been interested in Shape Note singing?

Join us on Saturday June 29th in Quilcene for an All-Day Sacred Harp Singing!

The Olympic Peninsula Sacred Harp singers are holding our second annual All Day singing, with a singing school Friday night at Finnriver Cidery to accompany. Shape-note singing is a participatory musical & folk tradition practiced in the United States for over 200 years. Singers gather and sing in 4 part acapella harmony from oblong books written in shape note notation - shapes are sung in Solfege, Fa, Sol, La, and Mi. Singers take turns calling songs to lead in the center of the hollow square.

There are no auditions, rehearsals or performances. While most of the songs have lyrics rooted in Protestant Christian tradition, no particular religious or political philosophy is embraced or endorsed by this community. Everyone, regardless of musical experience, background, or creed, is welcome in our community and our singings! Sings are open to singers of all levels with loaner books available. To sign up for our email list, send an email to olypensacredharp@gmail.com. We encourage everyone to come listen, sing along, and maybe even try leading a song!

The singing will be held at the historic Old Quilcene Theater -- also known as the Gray Coast Guildhall -- at 11 Old Church Road, Quilcene, Washington. We will be singing from the 1991 Denson revision of the Sacred Harp from 10:00am until approximately 3:30 pm, with registration opening at 9:30 am and a potluck mid-day.
