Arturo Rodriguez has been a Rhythm Ambassador all his life. He grew up in a very musical household with his dad an avid conga player and mom a Mambo/salsa dancer/instructor. With over 35 years of playing and performance experience, Arturo is a master percussionist who has played with legends like Tito Puente, Pete Escovedo, Paul Horn, Jason Mraz, Crosby’s Stills and Nash, and many more. A beloved teacher and performer at Seattle World Rhythm Fest and NW Folklife Festival Rhythm Tent, Arturo has been infusing afro-latin music and rhythms into the PNW for decades!

This workshop will be a composite workshop giving drummers and percussionists an insight into playing the many types of Latin Percussion Instruments well, with some of the hidden secrets for making you an accomplished drummer/musician. Arturo will go over techniques, mechanical isolation, important rhythms and concepts about time keeping to master and improvisation exercises, as well. A must workshop for all who want to learn how to bring their own inner musicality out. ¡Arriba!

Arturo will be performing the same night at Finnriver with Reposado “Afro-Latin-Funk” from @7-9pm, too as part of the ¡TUMBAO! Finnriver weekend of Afro-Latin music. Tumbao! In music of Afro-Cuban origin, tumbao is the basic rhythm played on the bass. In North America, the basic conga drum pattern used in popular music is also called tumbao.

With Bootleg Sunshine performing Afro-Cuban & Spanish guitar with Aerial Performance by Amy Maui on Sunday evening 5-7pm. Don’t miss it.
