Arturo Rodriguez has been a Rhythm Ambassador all his life. He grew up in a very musical household with his dad an avid conga player and mom a Mambo/salsa dancer/instructor. With over 35 years of playing and performance experience, Arturo is a master percussionist who has played with legends like Tito Puente, Pete Escovedo, Paul Horn, Jason Mraz, Crosby’s Stills and Nash, and many more. A beloved teacher and performer at Seattle World Rhythm Fest and NW Folklife Festival Rhythm Tent, Arturo has been infusing afro-latin music and rhythms into the PNW for decades!

This workshop will be a composite workshop giving drummers and percussionists an insight into playing the many types of Latin Percussion Instruments well, with some of the hidden secrets for making you an accomplished drummer/musician. Arturo will go over techniques, mechanical isolation, important rhythms and concepts about time keeping to master and improvisation exercises, as well. A must workshop for all who want to learn how to bring their own inner musicality out. ¡Arriba!


Arturo will be performing the same night at Finnriver with Reposado “Afro-Latin-Funk” from @7-9pm, too as part of the ¡TUMBAO! Finnriver weekend of Afro-Latin music. Tumbao! In music of Afro-Cuban origin, tumbao is the basic rhythm played on the bass. In North America, the basic conga drum pattern used in popular music is also called tumbao.
