The American Lindy Hop Championships is the longest running swing dance event dedicated to Lindy Hop and its sister dance styles. It offers dance classes, dance workshops, social dances, live and DJed music in the swing and blues idioms and of course dance contests. Classes run during the days of this year’s event and parties are Friday and Saturday evenings starting at 9pm with live music and finishes with a DJ until roughly 3am. Friday night featured Josh Lee and Extended Family. Saturday night features George Gee Swing Orchestra playing a Count Basie to celebrate his 120 birthday. The event culminates after morning classes with aLHC’s 3rd Battle of the Bands featuring Danny Jonokuchi and the Revisionists versus Danny Lipsitz and Brass Tacks for an afternoon of non-stop music designed to keep you in the dance floor. A DJed soul party follows the Awards ceremony until roughly 9pm. After parties are $10/person each.
