Step into the rich tradition of early 20th-century woodcut printmaking in this dynamic two-day workshop. Inspired by the masterful works of Gustave Baumann, Frances Gearhart, and William S. Rice, you’ll explore the art of crafting vibrant, multi-layered prints using color woodcut techniques.

Under the guidance of woodcutting wizard Charles Spitzack of Seattle, you’ll learn the fundamentals of designing, carving, and registering color layers to create stunning hand-printed images. Using Safe Wash Relief Inks—ideal for at-home printing with easy soap-and-water cleanup—you’ll print on fine Japanese washi paper. This workshop is designed for beginners eager to experiment with the medium as well as experienced printmakers looking to refine their skills. Through hands-on instruction and personalized feedback, you’ll gain confidence in your artistic exploration while embracing the creative possibilities of woodcut printing. Experimentation is encouraged. All levels welcome.
