A galimoto is a push toy made of recycled materials like wire and fabric scraps. Children in Malawi and other parts of south Africa often craft these vehicle toys using whatever they have available. Join us Saturday, August 9th, to learn about how these galimotos are made and craft your own!

Your ticket includes a copy of Galimoto by Karen Lynn Williams, which Ms. Williams will be available to sign during the event. She will also read an excerpt from the book and share her collection of galimotos from Malawi. Children can explore Kondi's box of things direct from the story and ask questions about life in Africa. African finger foods will be available to sample during this time.

Teaching artists from the Center for Creative Reuse will then instruct attendees to create their very own galimoto like Kondi in the story. All materials will be provided.

This event will be a great cultural experience for school-age children and up, and a unique artistic opportunity for crafters!
