Sketching and painting the human figure from life is an essential art skill that many artists continue thoughout their lives. Quimper Arts hires local model, who generally pose nude but occasionally clothed. All artists, including beginners, are welcome. There is no instruction but many participants will give helpful tips if asked. Each session costs $15 for the general public, $10 for Quimper Arts members, to cover model's pay and room rent.

Bring your own art materials (charcoal, watercolors paper, etc.). We have easels, tables and "horses" (drawing benches with an upright support for a drawing pad.) In the afternoon, media used range from graphite, charcoal and pastel to watercolor, gouache and oil paint. Those working in oil generally bring their own easel for ease of setup.

The afternoon involves just a single pose by the model, and can sometimes include a costume or theme. We occasionally have 2 long pose sessions in a row that are the same model and pose, to allow for a more developed drawing or painting. Doors open at 12:45 p.m. for setup, and some folks stay right through from the morning short pose session.
